Today’s students are developing tomorrow’s technology. Teesing knows this, and that is why it sponsors and works together with the Eco-Runner team of Delft University. In 2014-2015 it helped the team to develop a hydrogen fuel cell that was 30% more efficient. than the one previously used. Teesing acted in its role of engineering advisor and was able to offer an appropriate solution for the team’s request. The blogpost about Eco-Runner’s visit to Teesing can be viewed on the team's website.
As a result of their successful and lasting collaboration the Eco-Runner team visited Teesing’s offices in Rijswijk. The team wanted to gain a more in-depth view of Teesing’s activities and capabilities for custom engineering solutions. Teesing informed the team of how it had transformed from a wholesaler of technical components to a complete engineering service. No challenge is too great: even if a new component needs to be designed, Teesing will work together with the client to meet their need.
With hydrogen offering great potential as a future sustainable, clean and renewable source of fuel, Teesing is staying on the forefront of this technology with its own initiative, a patented filling system. This system prevents the energy waste that is normally associated with the pre-cooling needed to fill a tank. The new technology is known under the name PUsH, an acronym that refers to the hydraulics that pressurize the system. Teesing is also involved in a national hydrogen platform in the Netherlands where the different players in the field keep each other up to date on developments. More information about Teesing’s PUsH system is available on the website.
This year in London the Eco-Runner team will be entering with its most efficient car to date, and they hope to be able to make a distance of 4000 km on the equivalent of 1 litre of fuel. Doing so would of course be a noteworthy achievement, and hopefully deserving of a first prize. Delft University’s Eco-Runner team has been competing in the Shell efficiency race (full name: the Shell Eco-Marathon) since 2006, using hydrogen-powered vehicles since 2008. The team has a number of victories to its name, ending in the top 3 in different classes in all years. In 2015 the team won the overall first prize. Teesing will certainly be watching for the team’s performance as they race in London from July 5-8. Such events obviously help to pique investors’ interest for the further development of hydrogen fuel technology.
